tomorrow's peeping baby birds
and mewling little kittens
rest tonight in nests of flannel
tomorrow's skittering
and pawing begins
only when dawn's first light
stretches over mountain ridges
and frost tipped trees
sweeping over yards
of frozen playthings
to tap so lightly
on thick curtained panes
tomorrow's first light will find us here
nestled and warm
coddled and pink
the bird still sighing
the kitten still dreaming
tonight in a silvery stillness
the moon whispers
to her sisters
tomorrow's light is still long off
breathe
close your eyes
and sleep
